ABOUT US

A journey of connection, community, and culture

Kirameki is a rural tourism and cultural exchange based in Kitahiroshima, Hiroshima bridging the world with the magic of the Japanese countryside.

Our Story

WHY KIRAMEKI?

The Meaning behind the name

Derived from kira kira (キラキラ), meaning "shining," and meki (めき), which represents growth, community, and possibility.

Kirameki (煌めき) represents a vision for a shining community, shining ideas, and a shining village.

MISSION STATEMENT

Supporting visitors and the community alike

Kirameki’s mission is centered around supporting both visitors and the local community by revitalizing the countryside. Offering visitors an opportunity to experience the enchanting culture of the Japanese countryside, while preserving traditions, supporting the village’s local economy, and promoting cultural exchange.

OUR VISION

A holistic, locally-rooted Japan

Rather than concentrating tourism in major cities, we direct visitors toward hidden gems across Japan and connect them with locals, giving travelers a holistic experience true to its people, while combatting rural depopulation through countryside living and revitalization projects.

Kira Bella – Founder & CEO

Born in Tanzania, raised in Australia, and on her own in the United States at 15, Kira had travelled to more than 50 countries but the age of 24, and found home in rural Hiroshima.

She holds a BS in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon, and a Masters in Sustainable Energy from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She founded Kirameki in March 2025 to share Hiroshima’s overlooked beauty. By coordinating programs to immerse visitors in its ancient traditions, landscapes, and resilient warm communities, Kirameki is a model for rural revitalization and appreciation.

“Today, I find myself in a quiet, rural corner of Hiroshima Prefecture, a place I never imagined would become home, yet one that's taught me the deepest lessons about life and beauty”
